The France captain won six Ligue 1 titles and lifted the Coupe de France four times across his seven seasons at PSG, but failed to win the most coveted trophy in European football during that period.
Having joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, shortly after they became European champions for a 15th time, Mbappe saw his former side lift the Champions League for the first time this season.
They thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich, breaking the record for the biggest final victory in the competition's history.
But the 26-year-old, who scored 256 goals for PSG across all competitions, says he was "happy" to see his old team finally clinch European glory and that his "story with PSG was over".
Speaking ahead of France’s third-place play-off against Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, Mbappe said: "I didn't leave too soon; my story with PSG was over.
"I am not bitter; I had reached the end of the road. I tried everything, and it was destiny that meant it had to happen without me.
"PSG winning the Champions League without me doesn't affect me. I was happy - I think they deserved it."

The Frenchman added: "They've had so many years where they struggled. I've been there too; I've played in every Champions League stage in Paris except for the victory.
"They're the best team in Europe. I don't remember seeing a team win 5-0 in a major final."
Mbappe came closest to tasting Champions League glory when the Parisians reached the final in 2020 before being beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich.
Madrid only managed to reach the quarter-finals in the 26-year-old’s maiden campaign in the Spanish capital, where they were [dispatched 5-1 by Arsenal](https://www.tntsports.co.uk/football/champions-league/2024-2025/bukayo-saka-arsenal-champions-league-semi-finals-penalty-miss-real-madrid-bernabeu_sto23174172/story.shtml) across two legs.
Despite finishing as top goalscorer in La Liga with 31 goals this season, Mbappe’s debut campaign in Spain was arguably a disappointing one, as Los Blancos failed to claim any silverware.
They finished four points below Barcelona in the league and were beaten by the Catalan side in both the Copa del Rey final and Supercopa final.
