Tyler Morton has never been one to shy away from a challenge. But even for someone as driven as the young Liverpool midfielder, the past season proved to be a real test.
At 22, Morton was hoping for a breakout year — a campaign where he could finally cement a place in the first team.
Instead, injury played spoilsport. A serious shoulder issue kept him out for months, limiting him to just five appearances. Not a single one came in the Premier League.
Speaking to reporters this week (via Hayters TV), Morton didn’t hide his emotions. “I think it’s been the toughest season mentally for me,” he admitted.
“I’ve coped with it very well because I’ve got good people around me, but it’s been very tough.”
He also revealed his frustration at not going out on loan, despite wanting to get more minutes. “It does hurt,” Morton said. “I wanted to go out and I wanted to play.”

What did Tyler Morton say about Arne Slot?
Even with a season largely spent on the sidelines, Morton found reasons to stay positive — mainly thanks to Liverpool’s new head coach, Arne Slot.
“He’s a very good manager with his tactical side of the game, the best I’ve probably seen,” said Morton. “To be honest, tactics-wise, he’s so on it and it’s unbelievable.”
Slot has reportedly encouraged Morton to stick to his strengths and adapt to the team’s style.
That support hasn’t gone unnoticed. Though his minutes were limited, Morton still feels like he has grown as a player.
Now, the big question remains: what’s next for Morton? With Liverpool’s midfield stacked with talent, a third loan or even a permanent move could be on the cards.
Either way, Morton knows what he wants — to play. And if he doesn’t find that chance at Anfield, he may look for a fresh start elsewhere. After all, sometimes you have to pass sideways before moving forward.
