Rodrygo is reportedly the subject of enquires from Arsenal after the Gunners are said to have entered discussions over a move for the Real Madrid forward.
Madrid have included the 24-year-old in the launch of their new home kit for next season, but the player's future at the Spanish club seems far from certain. Rodrygo and Xabi Alonso are set to meet to discuss what comes next for the Brazil international.
The uncertainty comes less than two years after signing a contract extension. That current deal runs until the summer of 2028 and reportedly includes a €1 billion (£840 million) release clause.
GiveMeSport now claims Rodrygo would want a significant wage increase if a departure materialises this summer.
The player reputedly earns weekly wages of around £200,000 in the Spanish capital but is said to want at least £50,000 more if a club is to convince him to move.
Arsenal are reportedly aware that meeting those demands may prove problematic. It is similarly said that persuading Madrid to accept a transfer would take a significant offer.
However, the Gunners are reputedly hopeful of agreeing on a lower fee to pay upfront by including achievable add-ons tied to reaching specific milestones in any deal. They are, though, said to want a deal that would have them pay much of the fee immediately.
That is how they operated last summer. Mikel Merino moved from Real Sociedad for a fee in the region of €32.5m (£27.4m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons.
Riccardo Calafiori then signed for an initial fee worth £33.7m, with add-ons that could take the total Bologna will receive to £42m.
David Raya, though, was the opposite, joining initially on loan from Brentford in the summer of 2023 for a £3m fee before Arsenal exercised an option to sign the Spain international permanently for £27m.
As for Rodrygo, his future at Real looks uncertain with former manager Carlo Ancelotti leaving him out games toward the end of the past season. Ancelotti subsequently cleared up the reasoning behind not picking Rodrygo for those games.
"He didn't play because he recovered but wasn't feeling well, so he wasn't at his best," he said. "There's absolutely no punishment, no problems with him. He was feverish, he tried to recover and be ready but he wasn't 100 percent.
"Giving him five minutes when he's not feeling well poses a risk, that he could get injured."
