Alan Shearer has already given his seal of approval as Leeds eye player who is ‘horrible’ to play against - opinion

Leeds United need players who will fight for the badge in the Premier League and do whatever is needed to win.

The top flight will be an eye-opener for a lot of the Leeds squad as the difference between the Championship and the Premier League will be stark.

Daniel Farke will know what the league is like from his experience with Norwich City, but he has every chance to succeed with the Whites in the Premier League.

Signings need to meet the standard of the league, and signing players who match the quality of Florian Wirtz is the way to go.

Well, it seems like the 49ers have got it right again, as Alan Shearer thinks a player they’re going for is ‘horrible’ to play against.

Alan Shearer praised Leeds United target Rodrigo Muniz

A striker who knows this level is what is needed, and Rodrigo Muniz could fit the description for Farke.

The Brazilian has come into his own in the last two seasons for Fulham, scoring 17 Premier League goals in the process.

Transfer target Callum Wilson could stay at Newcastle, so with Muniz’s arrival, it could transform Leeds.

A £50m price-tag is steep for the Cottagers, but if the 49ers can negotiate well, it could be a great piece of business, and Shearer approves of that.

Speaking to Match Of The Day in 2024, the former Newcastle striker explained how Muniz was ‘horrible’ for Bournemouth defenders when Fulham won 3-1.

“He really was a handful. Tough to play against, horrible to play against in fact. That’s always a good thing for a centre-forward, that’s what you have to be,” Shearer said.

“He was strong, he ran the channels, he brought players into the game, and he really upset the Bournemouth defenders in every way, in everything he was doing. He was willing to run in behind and on one of the occasions, he does it, they got their first goal because of it.

“He was barging defenders out of the way, and I really enjoyed his performance. That’s what you have to do.”

Muniz can be the consistent striker Leeds need

The Brazilian receiving analysis like this from the greatest striker the Premier League has ever seen is some feat.

It’s become clear that Farke can’t rely on Joel Piroe due to his consistency, but what Muniz has is exactly that, with the Fulham forward scoring eight goals in eight games during the 23/24 campaign.

The Whites need a striker who can be a nightmare for defenders, and Muniz does that to a tee.

Muniz will certainly take a chunk out of Leeds’ £100m budget, but it could be so worth it.
