San Antonio was never the place where free agents asked to go, or players under contract demanded to be traded to, but things have changed for the better. There's been some downside. The franchise is involved in every rumor, so you don't know what to believe. Real has become convoluted by possibility, and it's difficult to see through the mist. That's frustrating.
There's excitement at first. Your city is now a preferred destination. But initial elation is followed by disappointment after the noise turns out to be nothing but that: noise. We can't forget what it was like before Victor Wembanyama, though. Fans would be kidding themselves to believe the franchise would be able to manifest another Tim Duncan-esque era without some help.
The assistance is coming in the form of annoyance for most, but I advise you not to live and die with every rumor. Sit back, enjoying the fact that so many people are interested in playing for the Silver and Black now.
Wembanyama is making another Spurs dynasty possible
---------------------------------------------------
[Brian Windhorst was the first to predict](https://airalamo.com/posts/nba-insider-speaking-san-antonio-emergence-existence) that this would happen. He was on the money like Joker in _The Dark Knight_ (hopefully, he doesn't burn it next). ESPN's Senior Insider has been saying this would happen since Wembanyama arrived. He said he was hearing whispers that players were discussing ways to get themselves to San Antonio to play alongside the giant from France.
It was hard to believe because we just went through the era of the Big Fundamental. 20 years of excellence and consistent winning weren't enough to convince guys to make their home in South Texas. I could see why stars didn't want to join forces with TD. He already had his clique fleshed out with Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. High-level role players didn't really want to join either, though.
That's all changing now. We've [heard flat-out requests](https://airalamo.com/posts/star-point-guard-sees-himself-key-piece-san-antonio-spurs-draft-puzzle) to go to San Antonio or whispers about a desire to head down to SA from Rob Dillingham, Trae Young, De'Aaron Fox, and Kevin Durant, among others. What a time to be a Spurs fan. This is only going to make it that much easier to ensure the right pieces are around Wembanyama. They'll have their pick of the litter.
Right now, the franchise is perfectly positioned to take advantage of whatever direction they decide to go in. They have plenty of draft assets, cap space due to the movable contracts on the books, and a superstar reeling in the intrigue from everyone from established stars to promising draft prospects. It's a new day that we have Vic to thank for.
