Ever since 2024, defensive end Travon Walker has been the subject of trade speculations, and it's understandable. He was the first overall selection in 2022 and hasn't been nearly as dominant as fellow pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who went to the Detroit Lions one pick later. That said, the Jacksonville Jaguars are still committed to the former Georgia Bulldog. In fact, the new regime is pretty high on him. However, that hasn't stopped an NFL analyst from suggesting they trade him.
Zach Berman of PHLY Sports thinks that Walker would be a great addition to the Eagles' pass rush rotation after trading Bryce Huff to the San Francisco 49ers.
"Azeez Ojulari was the Eagles' biggest signing this offseason," Berman said via Bleeding Green Nation. "They'll try to see if Josh Uche can reclaim his double-digit sack form. But I don't think the Eagles are finished at this spot. There are potential ring-chasing veterans available, such as Za'Darius Smith and Von Miller. Could the Eagles try to pull off a high-profile trade for Travon Walker? I don't think the Eagles
For the sake of transparency, this isn't a news report, but rather an opinion. Berman thinks the thought of trading for the Thomaston, Georgia native deserves consideration, at least from the Eagles' perspective. That said, there are no signs that Jacksonville is placing him on the trade block or even listening to offers.
With that out of the way, nobody would bat an eye if the Eagles inquired about Walker. After all, they're not afraid to swing for the fences to acquire talent under general manager Howie Roseman. Back in 2023, they traded for wide receiver A.J. Brown. The year prior, they got safety C.J. Gardner Johnson from the Detroit Lions. Philly also traded for cornerback Darious Slay in 2020.
Circling back to Walker, he would immediately become the top pass rusher in Philadelphia. After losing Milton Williams and Josh Sweat in free agency, the Eagles signed Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche. However, both of them have dealt with injuries in recent years and enter 2025 with a question mark.
Meanwhile, Walker is coming off two consecutive 10-sack seasons and is poised to be even better in 2025.
Why the Jaguars won't be trading Travon Walker any time soon
As soon as the Jacksonville Jaguars could, they picked up Travon Walker's fifth-year option, showing how confident they are in him. Sure, you could make the case that he's left much to be desired, especially if you compare him to Aidan Hutchinson. But the truth is that he's been pretty consistent for the Jags.
Heck, his 10 sacks in 2022 look even more impressive when you take into account that he was asked to play with more weight than he should. Similarly, he managed to thrive despite the fact that the rest of the Jacksonville defense was underwhelming.
After the 2024 season, the Jags cleaned house and brought in Anthony Campanile to coach the defense. So far, Walker is hyped up about the arrival, and it's fair to assume that it will help him be even better than he was last year. For that reason, it would be shocking to see Jacksonville trade him.
Sure, the Eagles or other teams could hypothetically get desperate enough and offer a second or third-round pick, but that would only show that other clubs hold him in high regard. And if that's the case, why would the Jaguars want to trade him?
The bottom line is that plenty of teams could use Travon Walker, but that doesn't mean that the Jaguars are actively shopping him around. Simply put, the Eagles should be turning their attention to either Von Miller or Za'Darius Smith if they want to bolster their pass rush.
