Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

Let’s put this out there at the outset: Seth Rollins doesn’t “need” the Money in the Bank briefcase whatsoever. The Visionary is doing quite well for himself as one of the top players in the company, without having or not having the MITB contract for more than a decade now. Still, when you glance at the participants in Saturday’s Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, everything points to Rollins as leaving with the briefcase. Now, that has nothing to do with the other five competitors or their talent, but when something like that seems so obvious, don’t fight it. Rollins has Paul Heyman in his corner and added to his stable of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Even though I am a firm believer in the MITB contract being used to help an up-and-comer, it works with Rollins in this particular instance. Heyman’s new faction has everything except for some gold, or in this case, a Money in the Bank contract that can provide the same stroke as a title. Rollins doesn’t “need” the briefcase, but it just may not be a bad thing to hold onto it for a while. Now, if it isn’t Rollins (which it might not), El Grande Americano might be the next best option … he might be the best option if it were any other year, but it is not.

Prediction: Seth Rollins

Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match

When talking about the Money in the Bank Match, just like the men’s version, I always ask myself who can benefit the most from a substantial win, who might not be a common name with the masses. The Women’s Money in the Bank match has been around for less than a decade, and every Superstar that won the briefcase eventually cashed it in. So, whoever comes away with the case on Saturday isn’t assured of a title, but the odds are certainly in their favor. The past three winners alone – Tiffany Stratton, Liv Morgan, IYO SKY – either went on long title runs or are currently holding a championship. There is no real long-term heat with any of the participants other than a separate faction of former champs (Ripley, Naomi, Bliss) vs. the new arrivals. You can make the argument that this is the most talented group of women participating in the MITB match, and you can make a similar declaration on how nobody is a clear favorite. Bliss would fit perfectly into a long-term run chasing down the title again, but her already winning makes me hesitate with that thought. Ripley and Naomi would be part of the group as well. The only thing you can guarantee with these six is that you can make an argument for each and every one to win, and that is an obvious sign of a solid core of participants taking part in the MITB Women’s Ladder Match. Sure, there could be some outside shenanigans when it comes to Naomi or Ripley, but I wouldn’t anticipate that.

Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Becky Lynch

Women’s Intercontinental Champions Lyra Valkyria vs. Becky Lynch. The Man and the champion Lyra Valkyria have turned their unexpected rivalry into a burgeoning rivalry in a short amount of time, and now have an opportunity to take it to another level. This one is not close to ending. One match in a month is all Lynch has done singles-wise since returning. Lynch needs to win to be able to give it legs to get to SummerSlam, but I wouldn’t be shocked if that came from a special unwanted outsider. Not much has been mentioned about Bayley since she lost her WrestleMania 41 match because of a backstage incident that ultimately turned out to come from Lynch. It’s a matter of when, not if, Bayley exacts her retribution on Lynch. This could be that time. Interference by Bayley could ultimately lead to a Triple Threat Match at either Evolution or SummerSlam. Bayley’s interference could cost Valkyria title that would, in turn, breathe fresh breath into the current rivalry. Bayley is out there lurking, and this could be the time that she exacts some payback … or at least sets up a nice SummerSlam match for the title.

Prediction: Becky Lynch def. Lyra Valkyria

Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso vs. John Cena & Logan Paul

Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso vs. Logan Paul & John Cena Common sense tells you that this is just a run-up to SummerSlam, regardless of what occurs at MITB. Cena has to take part in pretty much every PLE from here on out while not putting the WWE Undisputed Title on the line, hence the tag team match. So, maybe what we see Saturday is what we are going to see at MetLife Stadium the first week of August for SummerSlam? It makes sense until it doesn’t. This match is crying for somebody else to get involved, and you can’t count that out, especially with Uso already scheduled to face Gunther two days after MITB on Raw. Still, I have a feeling that this just might be a one-and-done with Paul and Cena. There’s no longer a scenario here that ultimately allows Paul to ruin wrestling like Cena more than suggested. There were just too many indicators during SmackDown last week that suggest to me that Cena will use Paul and then move on. Cena isn’t interested in Paul’s place in his tour, let’s face it. Cena was reluctant to engage Uso and Rhodes at SmackDown before finally relenting and going along with Paul. Something was off. You can make an argument for The Final Boss and Travis Scott to return to help Cena, but I view that as more of a long shot than reality. Cena needs to be on the show, and there needs to be ample enough time for the two to build a match for SummerSlam. Uso will move on to Gunther, and Paul will be tossed to the side after the match, but will be able to further his "bad guy" persona.

Prediction: John Cena & Logan Paul no contest with Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso
