Crystal Palace have begun talks with Jean-Philippe Mateta over a new contract, according to BBC reporter Sami Mokbel.
The 2024/25 season will forever be remembered by Crystal Palace fans, who watched as their team won their first-ever piece of major English silverware when they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Not only have the Eagles won a trophy, but in doing so, also qualified for the Europa League for the very first time.
Due to ownership conflicts, Palace’s position in the Europa League is not yet concrete, though nothing can take away from the work that Oliver Glasner has done since arriving at Selhurst Park in early 2024. The Austrian has overseen a rapid development of his team, though perhaps no player has benefitted more from his coaching than Jean-Philippe Mateta, who Palace, understandably, want to keep at the club.

As per Sami Mokbel of the BBC, Palace are in talks with Mateta, who has been described as "unbelievable," over a new contract. The forward joined the club from Mainz in 2021, initially on loan, and really struggled for form under Roy Hodgson. Since Glasner came in, however, Mateta has been a player reborn and enjoyed a brilliant 2024/25 campaign off the back of a stellar end to the prior season.

Mateta’s physicality and finishing have made him a perfect fit for Glasner’s system, with numerous teams tracking Mateta as a result of his form. The Frenchman’s current contract expires in 2027 and it is no surprise that the Eagles want to ensure that he remains at the club beyond then.
Mokbel has reported that “a deal is now close” between Mateta and Palace. Should he stay, it would be a major boost for the Selhurst Park side as they hope to be allowed to embark on their maiden European voyage in the new campaign.
