Manchester United are confident about completing the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo, after a round of talks with Brentford.
It became clear that Manchester United would target Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo shortly after the Red Devils completed a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
It seems likely Mbeumo will arrive this summer in a deal worth somewhere in the region of £55-60 million, a figure that will place him close to the top 10 most expensive United transfers of all time.
An announcement is likely not far off, with all signs pointing to Mbeumo prioritising a move to United over other Premier League clubs.
Now, the focus can turn to what United squad number Mbeumo will be wearing on the back of his kit this coming season if he signs for the Red Devils.

Bryan Mbeumo squad number history
Many footballers are recognised by their shirt number and, in that case, Mbeumo may want to stick with the same number he has worn since joining Brentford in 2019.
Throughout the history of Manchester United’s squad numbers, several have become iconic, such as Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the famous number seven shirt or Denis Law modelling number 10.
The choices will be limited for Mbeumo, and his dream shirt number (7) is already taken by Mason Mount.
More United News
Mbeumo revealed his first shirt had Ronaldo 7 on the back, but Mount is likely to keep hold of that.
The Cameroon international has worn the number 19 shirt since joining Brentford and that is one of the few available at United, unless Mbeumo takes a shirt from a departing player. For example, Victor Lindelof (No. 2), Jonny Evans (No. 35) and Christian Eriksen (No. 14) have all announced that they will be leaving the club.
Meanwhile, Antony (No. 21) and Jadon Sancho (No. 25) are both likely to follow those players through the exit door ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Raphael Varane wore No. 19 during his three-year stint at Old Trafford before leaving on a free transfer last summer.
Available squad numbers at Manchester United
There are no single-digit shirt numbers available to Mbeumo as things stand.
Despite his seemingly obvious decision, there are other options for Mbeumo to consider.
High-profile numbers currently unassigned include – No. 19, No. 27, No. 28, No. 29 and No. 30.
Mbeumo’s biggest decision for now is to sign the dotted line at United. We may have to wait patiently for that to happen.
