Nottingham Forest playmaker now in ‘good conversations’ over leaving the City Ground - report

Nottingham Forest don’t necessarily need to sell players this summer, but a number of fringe players in Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad could still depart.

With Danilo looking set to join Lyon, it’s clear that space in the Forest squad can be made by moving on players who either don’t fit or haven’t been favoured by Espírito Santo.

Another set to depart is Ramon Sosa, but Sosa is waiting for an offer from Europe after turning down opportunities to return to South America.

Returning to a former club is on the cards for one Forest midfielder, though, who is wanted back by a side he spent time on loan with.

Swansea City chief makes Lewis O’Brien stance clear

All parties would agree that Lewis O’Brien would be best to leave Forest to find a club that can provide him with first-team football.

Since January, he has been on loan at Swansea City and has performed well, with Swansea fans appreciating O’Brien’s efforts. Now, according to Wales Online, Director of Football Richard Montague wants to see the midfielder return to South Wales next season.

He said: “We have had good conversations with Forest. They were really good to deal with last season, they sent us a really nice message to thank us for how well Lewis did with us, which was great to receive.

“We have a good dialogue with them. The ball is a little bit in their court at the moment because of Lewis’ contract situation. He is on a Premier League salary and there needs to be some give in some sense to make it work for us. But it’s definitely an option that’s still on the table.”

Reports have suggested that O’Brien would like to stay at Swansea, but he has a number of options to consider for his next move.

Lewis O’Brien has multiple options for his Nottingham Forest exit

Clearly, Forest won’t stand in O’Brien’s way in finding a new club, but it won’t necessarily be Swansea who win the race to sign the 26-year-old who is in demand this summer.

Staying in Wales, the midfielder has two options as Wrexham have registered an interest in O’Brien, which could represent a more interesting option than Swansea given that the Hollywood-backed club will have their sights on immediately challenging at the top of the table.

If he fancies a real change of scenery, though, Valencia have looked at O’Brien as the La Liga giants are managed by Carlos Corberan, who helped the Englishman attract the attention of Forest in the first place.

He almost certainly won’t be seen at the City Ground again, but it will be an interesting watch for Forest fans to see where O’Brien ends up in the transfer window.
