Liverpool's dream starting XI for Premier League title defence after three more transfers completed

Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz

Jeremie Frimpong could see Florian Wirtz arrive at Liverpool

starting line-up for next season could be drastically different from the one that ended the 2024/25 campaign. The Reds have the whole summer to get their squad ready for their Premier League title defence.

Even though Liverpool won the league title by ten points, Arne Slot and Co. will not be taking anything for granted heading into the new campaign. Some players will be moving to Anfield while some others will be heading for the exit door.

Liverpool have already signed Jeremie Frimpong after agreeing a £29.5 million deal for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

The right-back comes in as a potential replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who completed a £10m switch to Real Madrid earlier this month.

There was another departure confirmed this week as Caoimhin Kelleher completed an £18m move to Brentford. The Reds sanctioned the exit with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to arrive from Valencia after a deal was agreed last summer.

That's all business which has already been agreed, but there is the potential for more deals to follow. Liverpool remain in talks to sign Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen, and recently made a bid worth a total of £113m.

Wirtz is capable of performing in a No.10 role in midfield as well as across the forward line. That versatility would be extremely beneficial to Slot and Liverpool going into the new campaign.

The Reds are also ramping up their interest in signing Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. The Cherries are thought to value the left-back at around £45m.

If Liverpool were to agree a deal for the Hungary international, he would likely look to compete for the starting left-back spot in the team.

That would, as a result, create uncertainty around the futures of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.

In terms of the forward line, Liverpool are being linked with a host of potential new strikers. One name who has been mentioned on the rumour mill is Hugo Ekitike.

The Eintracht Frankfurt star is reported to be valued at around £100m (£84million) and is also said to be wanted by Chelsea this summer. If the Reds were to get a deal for Ekitike over the line, it would not be to have the France Under-21 international on the bench for the campaign ahead.

As a result, the futures of Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota would also be the subject of speculation. Luis Diaz and Cofy Gakpo, both of whom have been linked with moves away from Anfield, would be left to battle for the left wing spot with Mohamed Salah on the right.

Liverpool dream line-up for 2025/26: Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk; Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Wirtz; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo.
