Chelsea reportedly have a seven-year contract agreement in place with Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens and have now tabled their first offer.
The Blues are on a quest to add further firepower to Enzo Maresca's squad before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup next weekend. Striker Liam Delap has signed, as has Dario Essugo from Sporting CP, but the decision to send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United instead of sign the 25-year-old at the end of his loan has left a gap to fill.
Gittens has, therefore, emerged as a target as a 20-year-old, right-footed left-winger.
According to The Athletic, the young Englishman is intent on making the switch to Stamford Bridge and, in a major step towards completion, has agreed terms on a seven-year contract.
His decision is partly down to wishing to be under greater consideration for Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having so far only played for the Under-21s.
He scored 12 times and provided five assists across 48 appearances during the 2024/25 season, gaining recognition from transfer suitors such as Chelsea, while it appears Dortmund may be happy to oblige.
It's explained that the Bundesliga club want the money from the sale to help fund their summer business, plus new manager Niko Kovac does not see Gittens as a good fit for his system anyway.
As for the reported offer, no fee has been mapped out, at this stage, but the CIES Football Observatory do provide an estimated transfer value for the winger in the range of €51m-67m (£42.9m-£56.4m).
A relationship between the English and German clubs has been built already in recent seasons - with Ian Maatsen and Carney Chukwuemeka loaned to Signal Iduna Park in 2023/24 and 2024/25 respectively.
If Chelsea want the player to be eligible for the upcoming tournament in the United States then they are going to have to work quickly. They have until end of play on June 10 before an initial transfer window closes - and then the group stages get underway on June 15.
Maresca's men first play against Club Leon at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on June 16, but they will have to have their squad registered in advance.
