David Moyes should ditch Aleksandar Mitrovic and sign 'lethal' 28-goal goal star that will cost …

Everton have recently been linked with a move for Al-Hilal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, but David Moyes must look at a sensational Serie A star instead.

It comes as no surprise that the Toffees are looking to sign a striker this summer to take with them into their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. David Moyes knows Everton’s attack is a problem, and he is eager to improve it.

This week, Everton have been linked with a move for Aleksandar Mitrovic, who will be free to leave Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal if they sign another striker.

Fabrizio Romano stated Mitrovic has interest from Europe, with Everton appearing to be one of them. Despite his sensational goal tally in Saudi Arabia, Everton fans do not want to sign Mitrovic, as they believe his age and £40m price tag do not make the deal worthwhile.

Additionally, The Friedkin Group want a marquee signing at Everton to excite fans ahead of their new stadium. Names like Richarlison have also been mentioned, but it is unlikely that they will be able to get that deal done.

With Everton looking for a new striker, they should look no further than one player in the Serie A who has impressed many with his goal tally in the 2024/25 campaign.

Everton should consider signing Mateo Retegui from Atalanta

Goals from strikers have been a problem at Everton in the last 12 months, with Beto netting eight and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring just three times in 26 league appearances.

Moyes needs someone who has an eye for a goal, and he would get exactly that with Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui.

At 26, Retegui has found the best form of his career, scoring a sensational 25 league goals last season, more than any other player in Serie A.

After his impressive season, it is no surprise that Retegui has transfer interest. In May, TuttoSport reported that Juventus were keen on signing Retegui, who has a £42m price tag.

Everton have between £50m-£100m to spend this summer, so it is a deal they should be able to afford, even if it is on the steeper side.

The Italian also plays alongside former Everton forward Ademola Lookman. Although he is considered a flop on Merseyside, the Nigerian international could help persuade Retegui to join the Toffees this summer.

Luciano SpalLetti thinks Mateo Retegui is ‘lethal’

Calvert-Lewin looks set to leave Everton this summer, so Moyes will be short of attacking options when July comes around.

Everton are believed to be interested in Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, who impressed in the Bundesliga last season with 12 goals. However, The Friedkin Group must consider signing someone like Retegui to give Everton the best chance of goals next season.

Moyes will also be pleased to hear that Retegui has the backing of the Italy national team manager Luciano Spalletti, who is a big fan of the 26-year-old.

During an interview with the Guardian in October 2024, Spalletti said: “Inside the box, he is lethal. And now he has learned how to connect with the team better. He’s going to become a top player.”

The move would also surely excite Everton fans, who will be eager to see their team push further up the Premier League table next season.
