Chelsea could have perfect transfer gift for Jamie Gittens with decision already confirmed

Chelsea continue to be linked with a high-profile move for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

The Blues are currently preparing for their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup - in the United States - which gets underway later this month.

In the background, though, Chelsea are seemingly continuing to work hard on getting their transfer business well underway this summer. The transfer window is open until Tuesday ahead of the Club World Cup before reopening on June 16 for the rest of the summer.

Gittens has been heavily linked with joining Chelsea over these last few weeks, with a fresh update emerging on Saturday. It has been reported by The Athletic that the Blues have approached Dortmund with a "proposal" to try and bring the forward to Stamford Bridge.

The report does state, though, that there 's still no agreement between Chelsea and Dortmund, but the Blues will hope to get a deal over the line in the near future.

If Chelsea were to sign Gittens, they could have the perfect welcome gift for the England Under-21 international. Should the 20-year-old complete a switch to Stamford Bridge, the Blues would need to hand their new signing a squad number that he would wear during his time at the club.

At the moment, there are several options that could be handed to Gittens if he was to sign for Chelsea. Gittens could be given the No.20 shirt after Cole Palmer switched to No.10 earlier this week ahead of next season.

Chelsea also have No.26 available - which was previously worn by Levi Colwill before he switched to No.6.

There may be other numbers that become available for Chelsea this summer. Joao Felix (No.14), Lesley Ugochukwu (No.16), Carney Chukwuemeka (No.17), Ben Chilwell (No.21) and Djordje Petrovic (No.27) all spent time on loan away from the Blues last season - and if any were to depart then their numbers would become available to new signings - such as Gittens.
