Reports: Newcastle United now pushing to sign 10-goal Man Utd target after backing away from Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United are pushing to sign Bryan Mbeumo with Premier League rivals Newcastle United backing away.

Manchester United have agreed to sign Matheus Cunha as Ruben Amorim brings new attacking talent to Old Trafford.

United had to invest in attacking players this summer after a disappointing season in front of goal.

Cunha may have scored 16 goals for Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, but he alone will not solve United’s problems in attack.

United’s first bid for Bryan Mbeumo has failed, but the Brentford forward remains a key target for Amorim.

Mbeumo racked up 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season and appears to be United’s next transfer priority.

Newcastle United back away from Bryan Mbeumo

Unsurprisingly, United have not been alone in targeting a move to sign Mbeumo.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle United had made Mbeumo their top attacking target for the summer transfer window.

Mbeumo was ‘universally liked’ inside St James’ Park, with key decision-makers keen to lure Mbeumo up to Tyneside.

However, it’s suggested that Newcastle backed away over Mbeumo’s wage demands and Brentford’s stance of a fee over £60million.

Mbeumo is understood to want £250,000-a-week upon leaving Brentford, a deal United are seemingly ready to agree.

Newcastle didn’t want to agree to such a huge contract and risk other players in Eddie Howe’s squad asking for increased wages.

Mbeumo wants to play for United and has made that clear to other interested clubs, meaning Newcastle won’t be a problem for Amorim in this transfer race.

Newcastle United move on to Manchester United target Joao Pedro

Newcastle are leaving the race for Mbeumo, but are now targeting two attacking players with connections to United.

Anthony Elanga is wanted by Newcastle having dazzled for Nottingham Forest.

The Swedish wide man was sold by United in 2023 but has taken his game to new levels at Forest.

The Telegraph also add that Newcastle are ramping up their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro.

United have been linked with a move for Joao Pedro, who hit 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season.

A versatile forward like Mbeumo, Joao Pedro appears to be Newcastle’s focus for the summer window.

United will hope to get the Mbeumo deal done as quickly as possible just to be on the safe side, but the Magpies appear to have fully moved on.
