Newcastle United stance on Tino Livramento made crystal clear after Man City interest

Newcastle United are believed to have met Manchester City's admiration for Tino Livramento with a fiery defiance.

Chronicle Live understands that Newcastle - or Eddie Howe - have no interest in selling the once-capped England international full-back this summer. City view Livramento as a top target ahead of the FIFA World Club Cup and remain keen with three days left of business but a "not for sale" message has been flashed the way of the Citizens.

Newcastle have rejected initial approaches - coming from intermediaries - for the 22-year-old fans' favourite. The ex-Chelsea and Southampton star had an outstanding second campaign on Tyneside, as he played a major part in reaching the Champions League and lifting a trophy in the Carabao Cup final.

Despite Kieran Trippier, now 34, still being on board, Livarmento is regarded as the future of the right-back slot at St James' Park. And while every player at every club has a price these days, it would take an "astronomical" offer for Newcastle to even consider altering their strong stance on the Croydon-born star.

As it stands, Livramento is heading to Slovakia with England Under-21s for the European Championships and will play his part for Lee Carsley's young Lions before enjoying a summer break and returning for pre-season with the Magpies.

Newcastle are currently weighing up their options in the window and are focused on incoming business. In what has been a frustrating start to the window, with Bryan Mbeumo making huge wage demands and glancing in the direction of Old Trafford, United won't be pushed on breaking any financial structures in place - amid PSR safeguarding.

There are likely to be sales for fringe players in the coming weeks, but keeping key stars is high on Howe's wish-list. Howe said in May: "We want to keep our best players. I think I've made that very clear. That's not just the wish from me.

"That's the wish from everyone at the club. I don't have a crystal ball. I can't sit here and say what's going to happen.

"I can only say what my determination is, and it is to build a team, the best team possible - and to do that you can't consistently lose your best players."
