Manchester United Open Talks for Shock Move to Sign Rafael Leao

Manchester United have reportedly opened talks to sign AC Milan star Rafael Leao in a surprise summer swoop, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

United Continue Attack Overhaul

Following a disappointing season in front of goal, United are prioritising a major attacking overhaul. The Red Devils have already snapped up Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves for around £62.5 million and are also pursuing Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo — with the Bees demanding a similar fee for the Cameroonian.

But with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and even Alejandro Garnacho potentially heading for the exit, United are now eyeing another marquee addition on the flanks — and Rafael Leao has emerged as a top target.

Leao on the Radar Amid Bayern Competition

The Portuguese international has reportedly expressed a desire to leave Milan after a challenging campaign. Despite contributing 12 goals and 11 assists in 50 appearances last season, Leao struggled for consistency.

Milan are open to selling but only at the right price, with the Serie A giants slapping a hefty £84 million valuation on their talisman. However, they may be forced to negotiate down to around £59 million if Leao pushes for a move.

Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, with Leroy Sane expected to depart this summer, adding pressure on United to act quickly.

Do United Really Need Leao?

While Leao’s flair and pedigree are undeniable — having led Milan to a Scudetto in 2021/22 and a Supercoppa Italiana last term — questions remain over United’s strategy. If Mbeumo is signed, splashing out again on a wide forward may not be the wisest move. A central striker and a dynamic midfielder arguably remain greater priorities.

Still, this could be one to watch. Should United press ahead, the chase for Leao could become one of the most intriguing transfer sagas of the summer.
