Pacman Jones issues statement on alleged assault of police officer

Former NFL star Adam “Pacman” Jones has broken his silence a day after his most recent arrest.

Jones was arrested on Friday in Covington, Ky., over several charges, most notably an alleged assault of a police officer. His other charges include public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

On Saturday, Jones issued a statement on the arrest, via NFL reporter Jordan Schultz. Jones’ camp labeled the incident as “overzealous policing.” The statement also detailed the officers’ supposed “escalating and inconsistent charges” against Jones during the incident, claiming the ex-NFL star was first arrested for alleged assault, before the charges were shifted to public intoxication, and “finally settled on” disorderly conduct.

“Adam, like every American, is innocent until proven guilty,” the statement read. “Yet, once again, his past is being weaponized against him in the court of public opinion, while the officers involved face no scrutiny for their conduct. The repeated mischaracterization of his encounters with law enforcement—often stemming from minor incidents—only reinforces the need for accountability in policing.”

“Enough is enough. People should not be arrested for asking questions, and police should not be allowed to fabricate charges simply because they don’t like the tone of a conversation. This type of behavior erodes trust in law enforcement and undermines justice. Adam deserves fairness, not another headline designed to paint him as a villain for clicks.”

Jones has reportedly been released on a $10,000 bail and has a scheduled court date on Monday.

Friday’s arrest is far from Jones’ first run-in with the law. He was most recently arrested for causing a scene during last year’s Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight.

Despite his off-field issues, Jones managed to find success on the field. He played for four teams spanning a dozen seasons in the NFL.
