Madueke picks up assist in England win; Petrović saves penalty for Serbia

Thomas Tuchel made it three wins from three as England manager, with zero goals conceded, though there was little to be impressed from last night’s 1-0 win over Andorra in Barcelona, Spain.

Andorra, one of the smallest nations and lowest ranked national teams in the world, were able to keep a rather uninspiring England team at arm’s length for the vast majority of the 90 minutes, with only a Harry Kane goal early in the second half saving the Three Lions’ blushes. Kane was set up excellently by Noni Madueke, who played the whole game and would be named the Man of the Match.

Fellow Chelsea players Cole Palmer and Reece James also started — Reecey at left back — with the latter also completing the entire 90 minutes and the former seeing over an hour of action. No rest for the weary!

Elsewhere in World Cup qualifying action, Đorđe Petrović got the start for Serbia in their first game of the qualification cycle, and repaid that faith by saving a penalty to preserve a goalless draw.

Saving penalties is not necessarily the primary quality we need in a goalkeeper — though it sure is useful — but whatever his perceived shortcomings may be, surely we need to give Petrović a proper shot at the Chelsea job (and have him earn it again).
