Chelsea continue to move fast in the transfer market, to get as much of our business done before the Club World Cup as possible — without doing something too silly — and the next priority target on our list appears to be Jamie Gittens.
And according to reports on Saturday, we have now successfully reached an agreement in principle over a seven-year contract with the 20-year-old winger, who in turn is said to be quite interested in joining us (otherwise he wouldn’t have agreed terms on said contract, presumably).
Personal terms are of course just one thing, and often the easier thing. Now we need an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer itself. While there’s reportedly a €50m release clause in Gittens’ contract, we are hoping to get it done for a little less than that: “around €35m” as per subsequent reports.
Dortmund don’t sound too keen on that — why should they be? — but perhaps we can find a middle ground.
