LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Former Nebraska Star Running Back, Ameer Abdullah, returned to Lincoln on Saturday to host his annual running back skills camp. The 10-year NFL Veteran led campers through drills and games alongside other Nebraska running backs Ahman Green and Emmett Johnson.
Abdullah was a standout back for the Huskers from 2011 through 2014. The past 3 seasons he has been playing with the Las Vegas Raiders. Abdullah appreciates everything Lincoln gave to him when he was a player and says its important he gives back to Nebraska community.
“Lincoln is one of those places that if you give to it it is going to give back to you,” Ameer Abdullah said.
Ahman Green (Nebraska Running Back 1995-1997) was a mentor for Abdullah throughout his time at Nebraska and also while he has played in the NFL. Green played 12 seasons in the NFL after helping Nebraska win 2 National Championships.
“He (Ahman) is my favorite back in Nebraska history,” Abdullah said.
Emmett Johnson is entering his 4th year at Nebraska and is in line to be the Huskers starting running back. Johnson says Abdullah has been mentor to him similar to how Ahman Green helped Ameer. The Huskers Junior enjoyed the morning giving back to the fans and going through the drills.
“Being out here, We all grew up as kids with a dream, props to Ameer Abdullah and Ahmad Green for coming out here but most importantly, just an honor to be with those guys some Husker greats,” Emmett Johnson said.
Overall, Abdullah’s camp welcomed dozens of Kindergarten through 8th Graders for a morning of football and fun. The camp was held mainly inside at the Lincoln Sports Foundation Youth Complex.
