The latest transfer news from Manchester United and Manchester City

There are just a couple of days left in the first part of the summer transfer window, as Manchester City look to complete any signings they wish to have on board for the FIFA Club World Cup.

An early registration window has been opened for teams competing in the tournament to add to their respective squads. It will close on Tuesday before the window opens again next weekend. City are looking to finalise deals for Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Aït-Nouri with medicals scheduled for over the weekend for the duo.

There is plenty more business expected across Manchester, with several players poised to exit and join the respective clubs.

Man City make first offer for Rayan Cherki

Cherki has just one year remaining on his deal with Lyon and is set to depart this summer. He had been linked with Liverpool but has opted to join City. He has 29 goals and 45 assists in 159 games for Lyon, totalling 74 goal contributions.

Last season he scored 12 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions and at the age of 21, he has the potential for further improvement. The report adds that Cherki has already held talks with Guardiola.

Despite City’s first offer not meeting Lyon’s valuation, the deal is described as being on the right path and an improved offer is “being prepared”. Cherki is unlikely to join City in time for the Club World Cup but will help form the future of the club’s attacking options alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush.

Rasmus Hojlund a top target for Inter Milan

In other news, Fabrizio Romano has said that United flop Rasmus Hojlund remains a top target for beaten Champions League finalists Inter Milan. He said on X: “Rasmus Højlund remains high on Inter’s list of target, as exclusively revealed in May.”

Hojlund joined the Red Devils for £72m from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 but has struggled to live up to the billing, especially in the Premier League. He has 14 goals in 62 appearances, averaging slightly more than one goal every five games. He also has two assists in the league.

As United look to strengthen their attack, they will need to sell players to afford their top targets and Hojlund could be sacrificed. A move back to Italy may prove beneficial for all parties, with the Denmark international struggling with the pressure of leading the line at Old Trafford.
