‘What do you want?’ - Man City’s £100m star loses his rag amid Newcastle United transfer talk

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are linked with Manchester City outcast Jack Grealish.

Jack Grealish has fired back at social media critics for hammering his poor season at Manchester City.

The England international - linked with a summer switch to Newcastle United - was a bit part player for Pep Guardiola’s side despite their poor campaign. Grealish started just one Premier League game from December onward and was an unused substitute during the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.

One minute of Premier League action in City’s final six games compounded the 29-year-old’s misery as talk of a summer move ramps up. Newcastle have been one of several top-flight clubs linked with Grealish’s signature.

However, the question is whether the Magpies need another left-winger, with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes already jostling for the position. Grealish’s staggering £300,000 per week wages are also a stumbling block as any permanent move would involve Newcastle breaking their structure.

The winger has endured a turbulent time with the media throughout his professional career. Ironically, he was snapped looking worse for wear in Newcastle city centre in March hours after attending a Washington social club.

Jack Grealish hits out on social media

A talkSPORT clip of his former Aston Villa teammate, Gabby Agbonlahor, defending him surfaced on their Instagram account. Grealish could not help but respond to one critic with “What do you want me to do, score a hat-trick in 20 minutes?”

Man City’s record signing also quipped: “I’ve been bad lately? I scored three goals in three appearances (that were) over 45 minutes but okie dokie love.”

It is understood that Grealish is surplus to requirements at the Etihad and will be allowed to leave this summer. NewcastleWorld has heard nothing concrete linking the playmaker to Tyneside but his situation is likely to drag out over the summer.

Alan Shearer not sold on Jack Grealish move

Toon icon Alan Shearer believes Grealish would not be a good fit for Newcastle next season. He told Betfair: “I think Jack’s best position is coming off the left. That’s where we saw the best of him at Aston Villa and he was best there for Man City,” Shearer said.

“That’s the position where Newcastle are really strong. They’ve got Barnes and Gordon for that side so I’d be surprised if Newcastle were in for him. It looks from the outside that there’s no future for him at Man City. Not whilst Pep is there.”

Pep Guardiola on Jack Grealish future

Guardiola hinted at Grealish possibly needing to ply his trade elsewhere if he wants first-team football. The Spaniard said last month: “We didn’t talk, I didn’t talk with him. People don’t believe me, but these things belong to the agents and the club and Txiki, and in this case Hugo as well. Both will decide. What is going to happen will happen, but he has to come back to start to play minutes again.

“It’s not (only) Jack. There is not one player in my locker room, and I think all the locker rooms around the world, that is happy (when they) do not play. When the team is winning and winning they have to figure out how everything happens – but they are not happy. They are here to play and, when they don’t play, they are not satisfied. That is the normal position in all the clubs.”
