One of Brentford’s potential managerial candidates appears to want a move this summer.
It would be a big blow for the Bees, but they must move on and quickly ahead of pre-season beginning in just a few weeks’ time. A number of bosses have been linked with the potentially soon-to-be vacant role, and one of them is Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.
Rohl has impressed with Wednesday but faces an uncertain future despite his contract having two years left to run. The Owls boss has sounded like a man on his way out over recent weeks, and to add fuel to the fire, Wednesday are now enduring financial issues, under an EFL embargo while there have been issues paying staff.
Rohl appears to be on the move
That’s a situation Rohl could get out of, and asked at the end of the season, he was very uncertain over what his future holds. "I know what I want to do, my picture is very clear," Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield. "But it's also part of the decision-making of the club. I will not forget this place. It doesn't matter what happens now.
"To have such a relationship so quickly, such a belief, such hope, such a respectful togetherness - I can't have expected this when I took over. It will be part of the bottom of my heart. I had a view of my last 560 days at this club to look in their faces. How they celebrate, how they call my name – its always special. Big, big respect to them.
"The heartbeat of this club are the fans, they are always there. I have never had a negative experience with these fans, always positive. I thank you for all your support - for the fans, the journalists, for the staff. Thank you so much."
Though ,it is worth noting that in an interview with BILD this week, Rohl admitted his desire to make the move to Bundesliga - and soon. “If it were up to me, as soon as possible,” he admitted. "The Bundesliga is obviously something special because I grew up with it. For me, it's always about working at the highest level. I want to compete against the best teams, with the best coaches.
"I have the good feeling that I've been able to generate significant added value over the last 18, 19 months in a demanding league with very different playing styles.” Wednesday is Rohl’s first senior management role, given he is still only 36 years of age, so he is yet to manage in his home country.
