Manchester United had one of their worst seasons in their history, finishing trophyless in the 2024/25 season.

Despite going through a few years of poor form, last season was arguably the poorest and the team will be keen to bounce back.

The attack in particular failed miserably last season, both under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. With the exception of Amad Diallo who had a very good season and Joshua Zirkzee to an extent, no other Man Utd attacker impressed.

Alejandro Garnacho played a lot of games over the course of the season, but he did not always see eye to eye with the Portuguese tactician. Rasmus Hojlund led the line for most of the games but struggled to score regular goals.

Now, as per Spanish outlet, Fichajes, Man Utd now want to sign AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao as an option to end their attacking troubles. However, they face immense competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.

The Portuguese international could be available this summer from AC Milan will not be willing to let him leave for less than £84.3million. Even then, the player should be willing to move to Old Trafford over a move to Munich.

Leao had a middling season at AC Milan. In 50 games across all competitions, he scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists. The numbers could be even better if he was playing for a more functional team than the Italian giants.

Man Utd don’t have any European football to offer to Leao. Meanwhile, if he were to move to Bayern Munich, that would be a more promising transfer for his career as he would be joining a well-established project under Vincent Kompany.

At this point, it seems largely unrealistic that Man Utd would make a move for the 25-year-old this summer.

The financial outlay that it would require might not be sustainable for the Red Devils. Let’s wait and see if there is any truth to this transfer saga.
