Chelsea submit final bid for Serie A‘keeper

The first transfer window of the summer closes on Tuesday, ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

This summer’s window is split into two due to an exceptional registration period for teams competing in the expanded tournament – which now includes 32 clubs from across the world – with the market reopening on Monday 16 June before closing again on September 1.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City will compete in the tournament taking place in the United States, and the Blues’ two new signings could feature.

Both Dario Essugo and Liam Delap are thought to be in contention to be part of Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea squad for the Club World Cup, with the pair having moved to Stamford Bridge in the past couple of weeks.

Now, it has emerged that the West London outfit are trying to tie up a third summer signing prior to the Club World Cup.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have submitted a final bid of around £12.65 million for AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The goalkeeping department has become something of a problem area for the Blues in recent seasons, with the likes of Keep Arrizabalaga and Robert Sanchez both failing to impress.

Last term Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen shared goalkeeping duties, but it appears that Maresca and those in charge of the club are keen to add another option to the squad.

Romano claims that the Blues are keen to find out whether or not they can sign the Frenchman by the end of the first window on Tuesday.

Maignan, 29, joined Milan from French side Lille in 2021, having previously spent time with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

He has now played 163 times for the Italian outfit, keeping 59 clean sheets across all competitions.
