West Ham’s transfer business this summer looks set to primarily be dictated by their financial situation.
They are one of several sides who have concerns over their ability to fall in line with the Premier League’s PSR restrictions, meaning they will have to be shrewd with their decision-making in the market.
The Hammers have made a transfer profit just once in the last five seasons, something which has culminated in the issues they are currently suffering with.
Graham Potter’s side were one of several clubs who could perhaps consider themselves fortunate that the bottom three teams were so poor this season, but with the three newly-promoted clubs looking capable of competing next season, there are understandable concerns at the London Stadium.

Juventus are prepared to sell Nico Gonzalez for a £5m loss
Potter struggled to turn West Ham’s fortunes around in the second half of the season, and they will surely require plenty of work this summer in order to bring the squad to the level that the former Chelsea and Brighton boss will need.
MORE WEST HAM STORIES
The work to revamp the squad has already begun, with four senior players already set to depart E20 when their contracts expire.
The Hammers have also been linked with several new additions, and the latest of those is “wildcard” Juventus winger Nico Gonzalez, according to the print edition of La Gazzetta Dello Sport (8 June, pg. 18).
The Italian giants signed the Argentine last summer from Fiorentina, on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy him at the end of the season.
However, the 27-year-old hasn’t lived up to expectations in his debut campaign with the Old Lady, and the Turin outfit are now prepared to sell him for around £5million less than they paid for him this summer.
Gonzalez could be available for a fee in the region of £26m, but while West Ham are showing an interest, they look set to face competition from their London rivals, Brentford.
Gonzalez could be an excellent signing for West Ham
With Mohammed Kudus seemingly set to depart the London Stadium this summer, the Hammers will need a high-quality replacement on the flanks. Gonzalez looks as though he could be the perfect man for the job, regardless of his poor season with Juventus.
The Argentine international struck just three goals and two assists from 26 league games in what was an uncharacteristically poor season in Serie A.

However, when looking at his numbers from his three-year stint at Fiorentina before that, West Ham have every reason to get excited about the possibility of securing his signature.
He notched at least 15 goal contributions in each season of his time with La Viola, and appears to possess the sort of creativity that West Ham desperately need ahead of next term.
Gonzalez lined up against the Hammers in their victorious UEFA Conference League final back in 2023, next year he could be turning out in their colours instead.
