Fabrizio Romano says six teams‘called’for player Man Utd have a 40% sell-on clause for, he was sold for just£500k

Manchester United are stuck with needing to sell to buy after potentially splurging close to £120 million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, so the latest developments will delight them.

It is clear that Man Utd will find it difficult to engineer exits of players like Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, especially permanently.

Their contracts are mistakes inherited from the Glazer regime, but the smart deals done by the Ineos regime last summer are already paying off.

Fabrizio Romano says up to six teams have called for a player for whom Man Utd hold a 40% sell-on clause and he’s set to leave.

Maxi Oyedele set to Legia Warsaw exit

Ineos were finally ruthless last summer and proceeded with the exits of youth players who could have potentially become first-teamers but the path was too crowded.

That included exciting players like Maxi Oyedele, who was rated highly at Man Utd and even had the support of Bruno Fernandes.

Oyedele made good on his potential in his very first season away from Old Trafford, shining for Legia Warsaw in Poland.

He became a Polish international in his breakout season and those performances are now set to give him a deserved reward.

United hold a 40% sell-on clause they negotiated with his sale last summer and it’s a straight clause instead of a percentage of profit.

So they will receive 40% of the fee Oyedele is sold for. That’s where the asterisk comes in.

How much will Man Utd earn from Maxi Oyedele sale?

United will earn 40% of €6 million, which is about £2 million from Oyedele leaving Legia Warsaw.

That is because despite there being interest from many clubs, Oyedele has a release clause in his contract worth €6 million.

Much like Liam Delap, there will be no bidding war, but that’s the bet Oyedele took on himself while leaving United last summer.

That bet has paid off and he completely controls his future now, even if United and Legia might feel a bit short-changed on the amount.

Still, it’s £2 million for United at a time when every penny counts and it will be pure profit on the books.

Most importantly, it might make other clubs put more trust in United’s youth development which could lead to more lucrative sales this summer.
