Man United reportedly want to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer, he has also been linked to Arsenal.

Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the biggest stories of the transfer window so far, with Manchester United and Arsenal both keen to sign the Swedish international after he scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting CP last season.

Man United should sign Ligue 1 star instead

Gyokeres’ £60m cost isn’t all of the story either, as he is also reportedly wanting around £300,000 per week in wages, something that could be damaging to United with regards to Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

With that in mind, the Red Devils may decide to look at cheaper alternatives to Gyokeres in order to get a striker yet also save some money. There is one available in the French top division this summer.

Rennes FC striker Arnaud Kalimuendo has gone under the radar this summer so far, despite the fact that he is a 23-year-old number nine, who was the third-top scorer in Ligue 1 last season. Only Mason Greenwood and Ousmane Dembele scored more goals in France last season.

The 23-year-old is also a French international, having made four appearances for the national team so far, scoring two goals as well. His contract is due to expire at Rennes in June 2027, and so the French side could be willing to cash in on him this summer.

According to a report by Goal.com in May, Newcastle are pushing to sign Kalimuendo. Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen are also said to be keen.

The report says that Rennes are hoping to sell the 23-year-old for around £26m this summer, which is a bargain fee for a young striker who was one of the best goal-scorers in Europe last season.

Sancho sale could fund Kalimuendo signing

The 23-year-old is a lot cheaper than Gyokeres, and he would likely have much lower wage demands. Man United aren’t reportedly looking at him yet, but they should be before it is too late.
