Report: Liverpool could now move for 'supremely talented' £80m forward as well as Wirtz if Diaz …

Liverpool are reportedly poised to return to their pursuit of Newcastle ace Anthony Gordon in the event that Luis Diaz departs this summer, according to The I Paper.

The Reds were previously eyeing a deal for the England international last summer when the Magpies were looking to sell players to comply with PSR regulations. A deal did not materialise at the time, but Arne Slot and his entourage remain interested.

Now, Diaz is attracting interest for a transfer this summer and Liverpool are reluctant to part ways with the Colombian, though they could turn their attention to Gordon should they require a replacement.

Newcastle want to keep the winger

As per The I Paper, Liverpool rejected an approach from Barcelona for Diaz last week in a bid to keep the player at Anfield for the 2025/26 season. If the Merseyside outfit were to eventually cash in on the 28-year-old, Newcastle's Gordon would rank highly on their list of prospective replacements.

It is thought that Newcastle are unwilling to see the Englishman head to the exit door, but could be tempted into doing business by a "big enough offer".

One of the best wingers in the Premier League, Gordon registered nine goals and six assists last term in 42 appearances across all competitions. The "supremely talented" former Everton star is in fact a boyhood Liverpool fan, and he would be open to a move to Anfield, if the opportunity were to be on the table, but Newcastle could demand as much as £80 million to sanction a move.

Meanwhile, Diaz has been subject to interest from Barcelona and clubs in the Saudi Pro League, though Liverpool have reportedly turned down bids to sign the former Porto man thus far. The Athletic's Paul Joyce has admitted the Reds are "perplexed" by rumours of the player's exit and are not looking to see him leave this summer.
