What Northern Ireland's media are saying about Everton target Trai Hume after 2-1 defeat to…

Trai Hume picked up his 19th cap in Northern Ireland’s 2-1 defeat to Denmark on Saturday evening.

The Sunderland right-back has been identified by Everton as David Moyes looks to recruit Seamus Coleman’s successor.

It’s understood Moyes is considering a £20m move for Hume, who was a standout performer in the Championship last term.

The 23-year-old registered nine goal involvements from right-back, helping the Black Cats gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Hume played the full 90 minutes against Denmark last night, and here’s how Northern Ireland’s national media reacted to his performance.

Hume actually played as a centre-back in Copenhagen, lining up in a back-three alongside Sunderland teammate Dan Ballard and Norwich City’s Ruairi McConville.

Here’s what the Belfast Telegraph had to say about his performance.

7/10 – “Donning the captain’s armband again, the Sunderland hero has had an outstanding season. On the left hand side of the back three, Hume was impressive at the back but will be disappointed with Eriksen’s goal. Picked up booking for pulling back Eriksen.”

The Sunday Life added.

7/10 – “On the left hand side of the back three, skipper Hume was impressive in defence but will be disappointed with Eriksen’s goal.”

BelfastLive stated.

7/10 – “Led by example as he took the captain’s armband.”

Clearly, Hume impressed despite being on the wrong end of the scoreline, and Moyes will certainly be pleased with his show of versatility.

Hume has admitted he wants to stay at Sunderland

Amid the links to Everton in recent weeks, Hume did come out and admit he wants to stay at Sunderland this summer.

“I’ve said it ever since I moved to Sunderland, I really love my football here,” he explained.

“I love playing. I love the club, I’m happy where I’m at, if anything happens it’s from the club. I love playing for Sunderland so I’m happy being there.”

But, interestingly, Hume appeared to suggest that if he does depart, it will be Sunderland’s decision, so the door remains ajar for Everton.

Moyes has also explored a deal to sign Kyle Walker-Peters and Tariq Lamptey, who are set to become free agents next month.

So, there are plenty of options on the table.
