All eyes will be on Liverpool target Florian Wirtz this afternoon, with reports suggesting the 22-year-old is set to start for Germany in their Nations League third-place play-off against France.

Meanwhile, rumours persist about Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, suggesting that the Reds are nearing another summer addition. Liverpool have already secured one promising Hungarian in the form of 20-year-old Armin Pecsi, and supporters will be hopeful that Kerkez is next through the door.

With that in mind, here’s a round-up of the latest news and rumours surrounding Kerkez, as the Reds step up their pursuit of the 21-year-old defender.

National team absence sparks speculation

Social media went into meltdown on Saturday morning following the news that Kerkez had withdrawn from international duty with Hungary.

He had already missed their friendly against Sweden on Friday due to a minor injury but has now left the training camp entirely and will play no part in their fixture against Azerbaijan on Tuesday.

The Hungarian FA cited 'private reasons' for his withdrawal, offering little further detail.

It remains unclear whether the situation is transfer-related, though as things stand, there has been no concrete progress towards agreeing a fee with Bournemouth, so a move doesn’t appear to be imminent just yet.

'Talks continue' with Bournemouth

In an article from The Times, which confirmed the Reds' improved offer for Wirtz late on Friday night, there was a brief update on Kerkez, indicating that Liverpool are keen to bring the south coast club’s £45 million asking price down.

Since then, there has been no further update regarding an official bid or progress towards completing a deal.

Robertson drops hint

Liverpool’s current senior left-back, Andy Robertson, addressed the transfer rumours while on international duty with Scotland this week.

The 31-year-old admitted he is 'not daft' and acknowledged that it’s abundantly clear the club’s hierarchy are looking to strengthen in his position this summer.

“We’re not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done," he told BBC Scotland. “But, until that is done, I’ve not even given that a second thought. I back myself. I’ve got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward.

“I’ve had eight fantastic years at Liverpool in terms of winning trophies and being a mainstay in the team, which I’m incredibly proud of. I’m not getting any younger. I can’t change my age, but I still believe I’ve got a lot to give and that’s what I focus on."
