Chelsea £30m transfer bid could hand Man City multi-million pound boost

Manchester City could be in line for a substantial multi-million-pound windfall if former academy player Jamie Gittens makes a move from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea this summer.

The Blues reportedly tabled a £30m offer for the 20-year-old over the weekend, with hopes of securing his signature ahead of Tuesday's Club World Cup deadline.

Gittens, who was at Manchester City for two years after transferring from English Football League team Reading in 2018, is said to have already agreed personal terms on a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

However, it's suggested that Dortmund will demand more than £30m for the England youth international, who has flourished since joining the Signal Iduna Park outfit in 2020.

In total, Gittens, primarily a left-sided player, has netted 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 106 appearances for the Bundesliga side, reports [the Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/chelsea-could-hand-man-city-31812342).

While the prospect of Chelsea chasing one of Europe's brightest talents might cause concern for most Premier League teams, City may not share those worries.

This is due to reports from the Daily Mail that City included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal that saw Gittens move from East Manchester to North Rhine-Westphalia over five years ago, thus entitling them to a portion of any transfer fee Dortmund receive this summer.

At present, there are no further details on how much City could potentially earn if Gittens were to depart Dortmund.

However, when two clubs agree on such a clause, the sell-on fee usually only pertains to any profit made by the selling club.

Considering that Gittens departed City for just a few million pounds over five years ago, City could potentially see a substantial increase in their funds.
