Report: David Moyes could now miss out on Everton transfer target thanks to Neal Maupay

The summer is in full flow, and Everton are looking to make good headway ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 2024/25 season only finished a couple of weeks ago, but Everton have a lot to do in the coming weeks, with a number of players departing the club.

The Toffees have already confirmed several exits, with the futures of some – like Dominic Calvert-Lewin – still being up in the air.

But one man who will definitely be leaving Everton this summer is Neal Maupay.

Maupay spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Marseille, and he will soon turn that move permanent via an obligation.

But it’s been suggested previously that Maupay could be on the move quickly despite sealing that permanent move to Marseille, and now there has been an intriguing development.

According to Foot Mercato, there is now a chance that Marseille could actually use Maupay in a player swap deal.

They want to land the Argentina left-back, and discussions are now taking place with regards to a potential deal.

It is stated that a fee of just under £17 million might be enough for Marseille to land Medina. But Marseille may look to pay less and use Maupay, as they know Lens like the player.

It is stated that Maupay has ‘no real future’ at Marseille, despite the fact the French giants have to buy him from Everton.

It will be interesting to see if Marseille do look to try and use Maupay to land Medina.

Last month, it was suggested that Everton actually had interest in Medina themselves, so it’s not completely out of the question that Maupay could end up scuppering David Moyes’ transfer plans.

Everton need a new left-back

So Marseille’s plans for Maupay could potentially impact Everton, which would be frustrating.

But it’s likely Everton have other targets when it comes to the left-back position.

Vitaliy Mykolenko saw an upturn in form after the arrival of Moyes, but Everton can undoubtedly still strengthen there.

With Ashley Young leaving the club, the Toffees are now light in that position so hopefully someone will be coming in.
