Jadon Sancho is facing an uncertain future after Chelsea have decided to send him back to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old spent the latest campaign on loan at Stamford Bridge, but he hasn’t done enough to earn a permanent deal.
The winger registered five goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances for the London giants, including getting on the scoresheet in their Conference League final victory over Real Betis last month.
Chelsea have decided to pay £5million to send Sancho back to Man United, ensuring they didn’t have to pay a £25million fee to sign him permanently.
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Sancho is a “financial liability” to United due to his high wages.
The 23-cap England international is believed to be on around £300,000 a week at Old Trafford, with his deal set to expire in June 2026.

Man United could see £5m Jadon Sancho fee wiped out
Borson revealed United could see the £5million fee they received for Sancho from Chelsea wiped out this summer due to his wages.
He told Football Insider: “United have got the extra £5million, which goes right into this year’s accounts.
“But you’ve got issues because you’ve got a potential impairment issue. So, what is Sancho worth? Is he worth his book value? Well, they can probably justify that he’s still just about worth his book value, which is maybe £15million.
“The biggest problem is he’s paid, if everything is to be believed, something like £300,000 wages and then social security in the UK is a lot. It’s 15 per cent now, plus pension, so that’s £350,000 a week.
“That’s well over £1million. It’s like £1.25million a month. Let’s say the contract at Chelsea went to the end of May. So, United have got £1.3million to spend on him. This is just wages. This is not the amortisation.
“The amortisation is the same again, but just look at it like £1.3million in June, £1.3million in July, £1.3million in August.
“Let’s say they sold him on deadline day, or they loaned him on deadline day, because people are just going to probably go ‘What’s the rush here?’.
“That £5million they just got through the door for the loan fee could be paid out in wages for a player that’s not playing for them in the first three months of going back to United. It’s not a financially successful deal for United.
“It’s all about mitigation now. Can United mitigate the Sancho situation? Because he’s a financial liability. He’s not played for the club for more or less two years. He came on in the Charity Shield for seven minutes or something.
“He’s broadly not played for Manchester United despite being a huge cost to them for two years, and he’s got one year left of his contract. The contract is enormous.”

Man United accelerate ‘dream’ striker move
In terms of potential incomings, Football Insider revealed on 4 June Viktor Gyokeres is the “dream” striker target at United after Liam Delap signed for Chelsea.
Matheus Cunha has finalised his move from Wolves to Old Trafford, but he is expected to feature as a wide attacking midfielder in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Gyokeres registered 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances for Sporting Lisbon in the latest campaign.
