Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 6/8: All About the Benjamins

OBR Newswire Bloviation Header

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

Yesterday was a hazy but sunny day in Cleveland, nice enough to get out and stroll around in the 70-degree temperatures. My wife and I had decided to combine her birthday celebration with an early celebration of Father's Day, so we went downtown, found an outdoor table at our favorite restaurant on East Fourth, and kicked back to enjoy some adult beverages and good food.

With several events taking place downtown yesterday, the avenue on East Fourth was bustling all afternoon, with music blaring, people talking, and a general sense of liveliness. It's fantastic to see Cleveland alive, with happy people enjoying themselves. To me, it was a reminder of everything I love about living close to my city. Cleveland is just big enough to enjoy the accouterments of city life with easy navigation from the suburbs. There are other, bigger cities with more to do, but to me, Cleveland is just the right mix.

The establishments on East Fourth will be hurt when the Browns eventually move to Brook Park, but I'm hoping that the steady flow of customers coming down for Guardians and Cavs games helps them stay alive. As nice as Jimmyworld may eventually be, there's nothing like being downtown for a big event. I hope that there's adequate public transportation between downtown and Brook Park for events at the new domed facility.

As for Browns news, it's largely absent today, and what is there is focused on money. Things will pick up next week with mini-camp, but as long as I insist on avoiding aggregators and paywalled articles, pickings during Summer weekends will be slim.

When it comes to vast sums of money that most people like me, and possibly you, will never see, we have information about Aaron Rodgers' $13.7 million contract for throwing footballs and being goofy in darkest Appalachia. Rodgers has earned nearly $400 million for his goofiness and football skills over the years, although that's likely coming to an end as he's now in the nomadic stage of his career. Between Flacco and Rodgers, the AFC North is now looking like the AARP North, as NTRPRZ put it on the Cooler.

Elsewhere, we learned that Lamar Jackson is rich enough that he doesn't care about losing out on $750K in roster bonuses for skipping Ratbird off-season workouts. Give me 25% of that, and I'll build a website that would knock your socks off. Sigh.

We also learned that Deshaun Watson has out-earned Pat Mahomes for his career, indicating that something went wrong somewhere.

That's about it for everything but the bullet point list that everyone loves:

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!
