Leicester City-linked Craig Dawson is available on a free transfer this summer after Wolves announced his departure.
The veteran centre-back was the subject of speculation late in the January window, when a potential swap deal was reported, with Conor Coady going the other way.
The proposal was shot down as quickly as it emerged and the two centre-backs remained at their respective clubs.
While Coady went on to feature regularly for City, Dawson had to spend five months on the sidelines as he wasn’t registered in Wolves’ 25-man squad for the second half of the campaign, despite playing 15 times prior to the January window.
Now, Wolves have called time on Dawson’s two-and-a-half years at Molineux, announcing that he will leave the club at the end of his contract this month.
It means, should City still have an interest in Dawson, that they would be able to snap him up for free.
That may be helpful amid their issues around Profit and Sustainability Rules and the readjustments they need to make to their finances following relegation to the Championship.
However, Dawson is now 35, and so there may be concerns over his age, especially as the squad already has a number of players in their 30s.
Centre-back looks to be a key area for a revamp at the King Power Stadium this summer amid doubts over their current set of options.
Wout Faes is set to leave amid interest across Europe, while Caleb Okoli has been linked with a switch back to Italy.
Conor Coady is a reported target for Rangers while Ben Nelson, back from a successful loan with Oxford, has caught Chelsea’s eye. Harry Souttar is out until the end of the calendar year with an Achilles injury.
The most likely to stay as things stand is Jannik Vestergaard. Despite being told to find a new club by his Denmark manager, and despite being frozen out for the past few months, he’s said he’s not going anywhere unless the club tell him differently.
