Colts might've quietly nailed this offseason move (and it's flying under the radar)

It's been a little tough to find good Colts news of late. And with the recent news that Anthony Richardson reaggravated his shoulder injury and doesn't totally have a timetable for his return, things in Indianapolis feel especially bleak right now. Thank god for the Pacers.

But it's not all a disaster – just most of it. If you're looking for a silver lining or two for your weekend, there's good news: the Colts drafted DJ Giddens. And it gets even better: DJ Giddens might be a Dude. The latest write up from [Roto Baller dives in](https://www.rotoballer.com/player-news/dj-giddens-could-be-regular-contributor-for-colts/1625512) to a little bit of the local reports about Giddens' training camp performance, and it's just the right amount of hype to get you through the next 48 hours of Anthony Richardson doom scrolling.

DJ Giddens might be the best Colts player that no one's talking about yet

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Indianapolis Colts rookie running back DJ Giddens will likely have the opportunity to win the RB2 job, and he could earn a weekly role on offense if he proves capable in the pass-blocking and pass-catching game, according to team reporter Jake Arthur. "Giddens may carve out some sort of role regardless of what's going on ahead of him with Jonathan Taylor and/or Khalil Herbert ... The Kansas State product was the No. 151 overall pick (fifth-round) in the 2025 NFL Draft after posting 2,469 rushing yards, 581 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns over his final two collegiate seasons. He'll be competing with Herbert and Tyler Goodson to earn a spot behind Jonathan Taylor."

"The backup running back could be a good backup running back" isn't exactly the type of news that stops you in your track, but beggars can't be choosers. Carving out a role in Year 1 – especially as a 5th rounder on a team with two bonafide vets above him – is notable enough to feel at least a little happiness over.

There isn't a ton of NFL news right now, so you take what you can get. And it sounds like the Colts found a gem in the 5th round – so much so, that he'll take snaps away from _Jonathan Taylor_. That's not nothing. It's almost nothing, but not quite! Sounds like a win to me.
