Tottenham have agreed a deal just days after sacking Ange Postecoglou.

The search for a new manager has now begun, and it’s reported Spurs are concentrating their efforts on Brentford boss Thomas Frank, who is said to be willing to make the switch. In the meantime, Tottenham have agreed a new deal with one of their players, extending Ben Davies’ contract for another year. The deal comes just in time, with the Welshman having moved into the final three weeks or so of his previous deal.

Spurs wrote in a statement: “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies' contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026. Now our longest-serving senior player, Ben joined us from Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and has been a constant, reliable presence in our squad ever since.

“He's currently up to 358 appearances in all competitions, level with the great Darren Anderton - making him one of only 29 players in history to have played 350 or more games for us. With 73 games under his belt in Europe, he's just three off the record for the highest number of European appearances in our history.

“Over the course of his 11 years here to date, Ben has scored nine goals and led the team out as captain on 13 occasions. On the international stage, the defender is rapidly approaching 100 senior caps for Wales and has represented his country at Euro 2016, Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

Davies was being linked with an outlandish move to Wrexham, but he has now put any rumours to bed by committing his short-term future to Tottenham, likely being a depth option next season.

Davies only said this week of his future: “I don’t think there is anything to update to be honest, I don’t think I am going to be the person who is making any of those decisions, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s full focus here this week." Just three days later, he has put pen to paper.

Davies on Brennan

Davies has been praising Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson. He said: “Brennan has shown this year that he is a top player and has proven a lot of people wrong.

“We’ve got full confidence in this Wales squad that he can replicate his form from the club here, he works hard, trains hard, we love having him around the place and I feel we have the best Brennan we can at the moment.” Davies and Johnson will get some well-earned time off after Wales’ date with Belgium.
