Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Borussia Dortmund attacking sensation Jamie Gittens. According to Fabrice Hawkins, the Blues have reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with the English winger over a seven-year deal. Having received a green light from the player’s side, they are now looking to strike a deal with the German giants.
Gittens hasn’t looked back since joining Dortmund from Manchester City in the summer of 2020. He went up their ranks at some pace and has been a part of their first-team setup since 2022.
The 20-year-old has gone on to establish himself as a key figure in the team. He was involved in 48 matches during the 2024/25 season and even ended up contributing towards 17 goals.
His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and there are quite a few top clubs that want to sign the English youth international. While his contract at Dortmund runs until 2028, Gittens have been keen on securing a return to England and Chelsea are all set to offer him the opportunity.
The Blues are on the lookout for more quality on the flanks with Jadon Sancho returning to his parent club, Joao Felix likely to leave and Mykhailo Mudryk serving a ban. They have been tracking Gittens for some time and consider him an ideal fit for Enzo Maresca’s system.
Gittens could soon join Chelsea
He can feature on either flank and is an ideal fit for their project, which revolves around signing the best young players in the world. They have been working on a potential transfer for some time and have finally taken a major step towards securing his services.
The Blues have managed to convince Gittens to join them. They have an agreement in principle with the English youth international over a seven-year deal. With the player ready to make the switch, Chelsea now needs to reach an agreement with Dortmund.
They have been in talks with the German club for some time and negotiations will continue going forward. Given how things have panned out so far, Chelsea should soon strike a deal with the Bundesliga giants for the 20-year-old. They are pushing to have him in their squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.
