Manchester City's Jack Grealish
Manchester City's Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish will be granted an opportunity to breathe life into his Premier League career with an opportunity to join Manchester City's Champions League rivals Newcastle United on a loan basis, it has been claimed.
The Aston Villa academy star, who has spent four years at the Etihad Stadium but still has two years remaining on his contract, is set for the exit this summer having been left out of the club's squad for the Club World Cup in the USA this summer.
Manager Pep Guardiola recently admitted that Grealish needs to be playing and indicated that that opportunity on a regular basis wouldn't be coming from his current employers, implying he needed to move on.
England manager Thomas Tuchel if he wanted to find his way back into the Three Lions squad in time for the World Cup, also being held in the States, next summer.
Grealish, who turns 30 in September, is on big money, considered to be in the region of £300,000 a week and that'd make it difficult for any club in the current climate to fund a permanent move, particularly with the P&S rules in mind. A loan, therefore, would appear Grealish's likeliest route out of Manchester.
Reports now have emerged that suggest Grealish will be given the chance to revive his career at Newcastle, who qualified for the Champions League at the expense of Villa on the final day of the season, despite losing at home to Everton. Villa themselves have been mooted as a potential destination for Grealish, too.
Newcastle will have scope to spend more because of their Champions League income and are guarding against the possibility that existing winger Anthony Gordon could be the subject of interest from clubs elsewhere. Eddie Howe is said to be a fan of Grealish and the clubs could agree a loan - but City would have to agree to pay a portion of his wages.
