Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho could be set to play a key role in Liverpool’s transfer window. The winger is expected to be on the move this summer after an incident-packed spell under Ruben Amorim.
Garnacho failed to see eye to eye with his manager and spoke out against him after the Europa League final. As a result, Amorim has reportedly made it no secret that the Argentine should be looking to find a new club this summer – and he is not short of suitors.
According to Fabrizio Romano, three Premier League clubs have come forward to register an interest in signing Garnacho, who is also giving plenty of consideration to remaining in England rather than heading abroad.
Napoli have shown an interest in the 20-year-old previously, and they are likely to be among the Italian outfits to be monitoring the situation closely. Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are also in the race, in what will be music to the ears of Liverpool.
The German club are hoping to bolster their attacking ranks this summer as part of a major reshuffle which has already seen manager Xabi Alonso depart, as well as Jeremie Frimpong – and further outgoings appear imminent. Liverpool are pushing to sign Florian Wirtz as well and have recently seen a £113million bid for the playmaker rejected, though a fresh offer is on the horizon.
The Reds feel that the No. 10 is the ideal acquisition to upgrade their title-winning squad further, and they may be hopeful that Leverkusen look to strike a deal sooner rather than later to fund their own signings.
With such immense levels of interest in Garnacho, the higher powers at the BayerArena will be aware that they may not have time to waste in their pursuit. Thus, if they are relying on the departure of Wirtz to fund a bid, negotiating minor add-ons – in the grand scheme of the entire transfer – may be counterproductive.
A lucrative offer may also be required to Garnacho himself amid Premier League interest, though he is not the only star in Manchester that Leverkusen have in their sights. The Bundesliga side have been heavily linked with Manchester City playmaker James McAtee as well, who is said to be keen on a move to Germany.
