Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer latest - Man Utd make U-Turn as Sporting make announcement

Manchester United are reportedly ready to sign Viktor Gyokeres as Arsenal prioritise Benjamin Sesko over the Sporting CP striker.

football.london understands the Gunners are pressing ahead with a deal to sign Sesko after thoroughly considering both centre-forwards. Each have been scouted extensively for well over a year by the club, who even contemplated a possible move last summer.

The RB Leipzig player was the front-runner then, and that remains the case, with there now appears to be a unanimous decision that Sesko is the correct choice, not Gyokeres. That is despite the arrival of Andrea Berta as Arsenal's sporting director.

The Sun now claims Man United gradually performing a U-turn with their finances, through cost-cutting, now enables them to sign the Sweden international. Ruben Amorim is reputedly ready to raid his former club, who are said to be willing to sell Gyokeres for closer to £60million than the player's £84million release clause.

He, though, very much remains a Sporting player for now, adding a post from their Instagram account to his story on the social media platform on Saturday. The post in question acknowledged Gyokeres and Francisco Trincao making the Liga Portugal team of the season.

His teammates Goncalo Inacio, Morten Hjulmand and Ousmane Diomande also made the line-up. All but Trincao were also in last season's team.

Benfica were the next best-represented club this year with four players: Alvaro Carreras, Fredrik Aursnes, Nicolas Otamendi and Vangelis Pavlidis. Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa and former Nottingham Forest midfielder Tiago Silva, now of Vitoria, completed the XI.

The league has yet to announce their Player of the Year, but Gyokeres is in line to win that award for a second straight season. Bruno Fernandes was the last person to do that in his final two full campaigns at Sporting before signing for Man United, with Hulk and Jonas also previously doing so.
