'I think he will'- Manager makes Chido Obi prediction after seeing Man United star in action

Manchester United have very high hopes for academy striker Chido Obi and rightly so.

Ineos moved quickly last summer to poach Chido Obi from Arsenal, promising the exciting teenage sensation a fast-track route to the Manchester United first team.

That promise was honoured and Obi made his senior United debut in February against Tottenham. The 17-year-old ended the season with eight senior appearances to his name.

Ruben Amorim praised Obi’s league performances after giving him a chance to shine in the first team, and the young striker will hope to take a big step forward in 2025/26.

Chido Obi prediction made after Hong Kong masterclass

Just days after Obi came off the bench to face Aston Villa in the final Premier League fixture, he joined United’s squad on the post-season tour of Asia.

In the first of two matches, Obi outshone Rasmus Hojlund vs ASEAN All-Stars as United suffered defeat in Malaysia.

In the second match, Obi put on a masterclass against Hong Kong, scoring two goals as United won 3-1 against Ashley Westwood’s side.

Westwood has since spoken to The Athletic about the post-season clash, and he spoke highly of Obi in particular.

When asked if any players stood out to him, Westwood replied: “The centre forward who came on who’d been at Arsenal (Chido Obi). A handful. I think he’ll get game time next season. Tall, good in the air, scored a header.”

Westwood backed Obi to get more game time next season despite United being in the market for a new striker. His dominant performance in Hong Kong suggests he’s ready to take the step up.

Rasmus Hojlund rumours could suit Chido Obi

It is no secret that United will add a new striker to their squad over the summer with Amorim keen to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres.

Ineos missed out on Liam Delap, but United have plenty of other forwards on their shopping list.

Reports suggest Rasmus Hojlund could leave United this summer with Inter Milan showing an interest in the Danish forward.

Hojlund expects to stay at United, but after such a disappointing 2024/25 campaign it would not be a surprise if Ineos chose to cash in on him.

That will be music to the ears of Obi, who could remain as United’s second-choice striker next season behind a new arrival.
