Ipswich Town chairman Mark Ashton has revealed that talks are ongoing over a potential deal for Jens Cajuste after his successful loan from Napoli.
The Swedish international joined the Tractor Boys for their campaign in the top-flight last time out after falling down the pecking order in Naples.

|Premier League|28|1|0|1829|2|0|

Whilst it ultimately ended in disappointment as they were relegated without putting up much of a fight, Cajuste did impress with his own performances, particularly as the season progressed, and he had adapted to the pace of the league.
Ipswich Town in discussions over Jen Cajuste transfer
If Kieran McKenna’s side had managed to stay in the Premier League, it was agreed that Cajuste’s move would be made permanent for £10m, but that obligation was removed once they were relegated.
Nevertheless, it seems it’s not out of the question that the 25-year-old remains at Portman Road, as Ashton told the East Anglian Daily Times that they are in talks with the Italian champions over whether a transfer can happen.

“Jens is a loan player who I think has done really well for us. He's had some challenges with injury this season, which have been well documented.
“Our conversations with Jens are ongoing. A deal or Jens to be here for the long term, it would need to be something that's right for us, him and his club - and that dialogue continues.”
McKenna has previously admitted that it was a long shot to keep Cajuste in the Championship, considering he has plenty of experience across top leagues in Europe in his career.
Fresh Jens Cajuste deal would be a coup for Ipswich Town
Cajuste
It was a tough year for Ipswich in the top-flight, but, after he settled in, Cajuste looked a classy player who was holding his own at that level.
So, to bring him in as a Championship club would be excellent business for Ipswich, as he could dominate in the second tier with his mobility and technical ability.
Whether it’s a realistic possibility remains to be seen, but with Ashton confirming that talks have taken place, that does at least give some reason for encouragement.

Ipswich must resolve Kieran McKenna’s future quickly, with Danny Röhl an ideal successor that they risk losing if they delay.
In truth, this summer doesn’t have to be a crazy one for the Suffolk outfit, as they do have a lot of quality in their squad, but midfield is the one area that needs to be addressed, so it will be interesting to see how they line up on the opening day in August.
