Leeds United hopeful of contract breakthrough as key 'talks start on two year deal'

Leeds United are working on a number of deals this summer to strengthen their squad for a return to the Premier League. The Whites know there's much business to be done if they are to put together a team capable of staying in the top flight and avoiding an immediate return to the Championship.

Part of that reshaping of Daniel Farke's squad is not just on new recruitment, but ensuring they keep hold of their star players and the players they want to build around. One of those is Wales international and Leeds' shining light in the Championship last season, Daniel James.

The 27-year-old winger was in superb form last season and returns to the Premier League hopeful of making a telling impact for the Whites. Out of contract next summer, Leeds know they need to get a deal done soon to avoid heading into the season with question marks over the player's future.

James is understood to be very happy at Leeds and has shown no signs to suggest he wants to run down his contract and leave as a free agent in a year. The Sun are reporting talks have now started with James on a new two-year-deal.

The Whites will be confident they can get a deal through before the start of the new season, allowing the Whites to focus on securing another winger, which they had hoped would be Manor Solomon. The managerial change at Tottenham Hotspur has currently delayed any talk of a deal there, as Leeds await the next steps in north London.
