Liverpool have been handed another blow in their pursuit of Florian Wirtz with the German seeing the Reds' latest British record bid turned down by the Bundesliga side

Liverpool have seen their £113million British record bid rejected by Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds have been in the driving seat to land the German youngster, but are facing a challenge to meet Leverkusen's eye-watering asking price.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds' third offer, which totaled $153 million (£113 million) - around $135 million (£100 million) up front and up to $18 million (£13 million) in add-ons - has been turned down.
Leverkusen are believed to be holding out for around $160 million (£118 million) despite being resigned to losing Wirtz, but wants to maximize the fee it receives for him, having originally set an asking price of $171M.
Despite the bid being turned down, Sky Germany are reporting that a deal is close, and a medical for Wirtz could be set up as early as next week.

If the Reds are to agree a deal for Wirtz it would hatter the British record - eclipsing the £106.8m Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in February 2023.
Wirtz, who could earn a whopping £355,000-a-week at Liverpool, is set to play for Germany has been named in the starting side for their Nations League third-place play-off against France in Stuttgart on Sunday.
Germany crashed out in the semi-finals to Portugal during the week.
Wirtz has been the stand-out player in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons, having helped Leverkusen win the title in 2023/24.
The 22-year-old notched 15 goals and 16 assists in 45 games across all competitions last season and is ready to leave Germany for a new challenge.

Liverpool have money in the bank after a quiet summer before the 2024/25 season in which they brought in just one player: Federico Chiesa. And the Reds are ready to splash the cash having already landed Wirtz's ex-team-mate Jeremie Frimpong.
