German media have a lot to say about Everton target Nick Woltemade's display against France

Everton are in the market for a striker this summer transfer window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to leave Everton at the end of his contract despite David Moyes offering him a renewal.

Armando Broja has already returned to Chelsea after his loan spell, so clearly a number nine is on the agenda at Finch Farm.

Everton have been eyeing Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade after his prolific season in the Bundesliga, netting 17 goals across all competitions.

Woltemade is valued at around £34m, which has alerted the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

The Everton target featured in Germany’s 2-0 defeat to France on Sunday afternoon, and here’s what the national media had to say about his performance.

Woltemade started the Nations League clash against France but was hauled off at half-time after a hit-and-miss 45 minutes.

The German media all reacted similarly, with criticism aimed at his poor finishing.

SportBild wrote.

3/10 – “The currently in-form German striker made his senior debut against Portugal. He had a great chance to make it 1-0 after 19 minutes, following a one-two with Pavlovic, but his misplaced shot was denied by Costa.

“He worked hard but didn’t always get through. He helped score the opening goal by blocking Rúben Dias, creating space for Wirtz.”

6/10 – “Got into dangerous positions and used his physicality well to trouble the French defence, making smart runs into the box and linking up effectively with teammates.

“However, he lacked the clinical edge in front of goal – missing a golden early chance by firing straight at Maignan, and later seeing a clever effort denied again by the French goalkeeper shortly before France took the lead. Ultimately replaced at half-time by Stuttgart teammate Deniz Undav.”

Express said.

3/10 – “Committed and driven to goal. He just failed to convert his first chance into his first goal.”

Woltemade’s stats vs France

Woltemade didn’t have a brilliant debut for Germany on Thursday, and it seems his second cap against France magnified all the same issues.

The 23-year-old’s lack of cutting edge will certainly be a worry for Moyes, as he missed two big chances this afternoon, as per Sofascore.

45 minutes

2 big chances missed

5 possession lost

2/6 duels won

1 offside

The statistics don’t make for very good reading, so perhaps Everton will begin to turn their focus elsewhere, having had a closer look at him on the big stage.
