Report: Wolves leading chase for 'reliable' goalkeeper with possible £25m bid in the pipeline

Wolves need a big summer if they want to kick on in 2025/26 – and Vitor Pereira could now be about to sign a new goalkeeper.

Wanderers enjoyed a pretty good 2025 after a shocking start to the 2024/25 season.

The appointment of Vitor Pereira proved to be a really positive one, and the Portuguese finished with a Manager of the Season nomination for his great work.

But Pereira now needs backing in his first major transfer window.

There have been plenty of rumours so far but no action on the incomings front.

Fans hope that changes soon, and potentially, Wolves could now be ready to shake up their goalkeeping department.

It was reported by Europa Calcio ahead of the weekend that Wolves have been following Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas.

Mandas has been with the club since 2023 after transferring from Greek club OFI, and initially served as an understudy to Ivan Provedel.

This season Mandas usurped Provedel.

But Maurizio Sarri has now returned to Lazio as their new manager, and this potentially casts doubt on Mandas remaining as the number one. Because Sarri was the manager when Mandas was behind Provdel.

It’s stated several English clubs like Mandas, who saved a penalty for Greece in their 4-1 win over Slovakia last night, but that Wolves are particularly keen.

Apparently, Wolves could soon make an offer for the 23-year-old, who could cost in the region of £21-25 million.

Interestingly, Wolves have actually been linked with Mandas before. Last summer, it was claimed Wolves were eyeing him as a potentially Jose Sa successor.

At the time, Sa was being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Wolves to prioritise new goalkeeper

Earlier this year, it was suggested that Wolves would prioritise the signing of a new goalkeeper this summer.

As part of those claims, it was suggested that Sam Johnstone wanted out, having failed to establish himself as the number one at Molineux.

But if the valuation of Mandas – who Europa Calcio describe as ‘reliable’ – here is accurate, then that would suggest Wolves would be bringing him as a new number one in place of Jose Sa.

It would simply be too much money to spend on a goalkeeper only to then make him the number two behind Sa.

We will see what transpires, but certainly if Wolves did push ahead with a move for Mandas around this price point, then Sa’s future would surely be in major doubt.
