Michail Antonio was dealt a devastating blow when he was injured in a car accident in December, and he has been absent for West Ham United ever since.

Antonio’s accident was a brutal one, as he left with a broken leg and several other significant injuries after his car hit a tree on New Year’s Eve.

It has been a long road to recovery for the West Ham star, while his team have sorely missed him as they struggled to replace the striker.

The 35-year-old could have died in the accident, but he is now on the road to recovery, and fans will love his latest injury update.

It also shows the West Ham star struggling at times in his recovery program, but he is clearly determined to beat these setbacks and eventually return to action.

“Faith will overcome all challenges,” Antonio captioned his post on Sunday (8 June), which could indicate that he has made a lot of progress in the last five months.

Antonio out of contract at West Ham

As it stands, Antonio is set to leave West Ham in the next month as his contract expires at the end of June.

It now appears that rather than extending his deal and continuing his recovery, he will depart on a free transfer.

This may be seen as a ruthless decision, and given Antonio’s service to West Ham over the years, fans would love to see him stay and eventually make a return to action at the London Stadium.

It may be some time before Antonio is ready to return to playing given the severity of his injury, but fans will nevertheless be happy to see that he is back to training in the gym.

Antonio has made 323 appearances for West Ham, scoring 83 goals, and will go down as a club icon when he departs.
